Treatment of infant constipation varies by age. For infants 2 months or younger, call your baby's doctor for advice on treatment. For infants older than 2 months, give them 2 to 4 ounces of water twice a day in addition to their usual fluid intake. If constipation doesn't improve, give them 2 to 4 ounces of fruit juice twice a day. For infants older than 4 months who are already eating solid foods, give them baby food that's high in fiber — such as peas, beans, apricots, prunes, peaches or pears — twice a day until constipation improves. You may also apply a small amount of water-based lubricant to your baby's anus to ease stool passage.

The Karo syrup for infant constipation should be put into water, not into the baby's formula, and just a small amount should be added. A teaspoon in two ounces of water is a reasonable amount. Corn syrup is sweet like sugar, and when it gets into the intestine it stimulates it to move the stool along. It also draws a little more fluid into the intestine, thus making the stools less hard. You don't want to overdo it though, because too much can cause diarrhea and change the balance of salt in the body very easily.

You can give him some boiled water, cooled of course, about an ounce or two. And try doing some leg exercises, lay him on his back, and move his legs as if he was riding a bicycle. It worked great for my daughter. I usually just did the leg exercises, and that always helped her. Just remember that babies don't always go every day. My daughter would go every other day, when she was a newborn, and the doctor said that was fine. If you’re really concerned call the doctor.

More pleasant for everyone involved, including the baby is using karo syrup for infant constipation to relieve the symptoms of constipation. Most experts recommend mixing a teaspoon of the light karo syrup with about 4 ounces of water in a bottle. The syrup has the same effect on infants that mineral oil has on adults. Sometimes children this young become constipated because they aren't getting the fluids. With such small bodies, it is easy to dehydrate in summer especially. Of course, never hesitate to contact the baby's doctor with any questions or concerns.

A small amount in some water when she was about 4 months old. It was for constipation and it was once or twice a day for a day or two and then when needed. I don't think it's supposed to be an everyday thing. While a little is not harmful, it isn't exactly healthy on a regular basis. Karo syrup is used in everything sweet, lollipops, sodas, etc. I'd ask the sitter to stop immediately and possibly look for another if you feel she will do such things in the future without asking.

The key to helping with the constipation is a tiny bit of sugar and fiber -- a very watered down prune juice is much healthier and much more natural way of helping your baby to get regular. Of course, always check with a trusted pediatrician first, but I am in disbelief that any doctor would recommend processed corn syrup.

The only good natural product is prune juice. If the baby is under a year old, mix 1/4 oz. of prune juice with 6 oz. of water and give 2 or 3 times in a day. That should make the bowls start to move.
